A practicing artist for over 30 years, Zalenski received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Sculpture and Ceramics from Ohio University and studied for a Masters of Fine Arts degree at Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia. Since then Zalenski’s work has been exhibited nationally, from New York City to Berkeley and Oakland, California. She has received numerous grants and commissions including major public art projects in Sacramento, CA, Fort Worth, TX, Houston, TX , ArtPark in Lewiston, NY, and most recently in Santa Fe, NM. With expertise in photography, three dimensional work, and site-specific installations, many private collectors and public entities have purchased or commissioned her work.
Zalenski has worked full-time as Curator and Collections Manager with a western art museum and Director and curator of a photography archive. She was Exhibitions Chair for a contemporary art center and worked with numerous art advisory entities in Fort Worth, and has juried and curated shows for arts organizations and galleries in Fort Worth and Oklahoma City.
Zalenski lives and works in Santa Fe and continues to work on public art projects as well as produce and exhibit her photographic work. In between projects, she works in collections management for both private collectors and public entities. Current projects are focused on and dedicated to promoting and protecting the environment.
The prints available at New Mexico Creates are individual images from a large photographic “quilt” commissioned by the City of Santa Fe Art in Public Places and permanently installed in the Santa Fe Community Convention Center. What Lies Beneath: The Interment of a Culture, consists of 42 large photographic images, of the archaeological excavation of the site where the new convention center now stands.
