My first instructor, my Mother, graduated from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. From my first drawings it was understood that my creative expression would be through the visual arts. Serious studies began at age sixteen and I had a hard task mistress. She had studied with some of the best artists of her time and learned craftsmanship techniques that are lost to the broader spectrum in today's world.
I received my undergraduate degree from Trinity University , San Antonio, Texas. Then my MFA, Masters in Painting in Florence, Italy (Atelier Cecil and Graves, Cleveland School of Art, 1985).
My fortuitous studies have encompassed various mediums with extraordinary artists around the world. From learning Chinese Brush techniques in the Philippines and Hong Kong, to mono printing/mono types in San Francisco, (CSF, Fort Mason) and techniques of the Old Masters in Florence, Italy, I have developed a style which engages the viewer to use his/her abilities to distinguish the subject conveyed as identifiable and easily enjoyed.
If I have been obliged to use pieces of visual language to excite my viewer than I am guilty for I believe my task is to show how we persist in feeding our emotional needs as well as our visual. My individuality is not seeking. I am at a stage of my life where I want to share, not extract, to offer, not extrude. My individual mythology seeks to promote a peaceful interaction between the artist and his/her viewer.
