Alan Dolgins was born in New York and attended several colleges with poor results, but he always maintained an interest in photography. After he dropped out of the last school he attended he managed to find work with a few commercial photographers. His schooling in photography was about as haphazard as his formal academic training, but that did not stop him from opening a studio and working as a free lance commercial photographer. In 1979 he opened a studio in Los Angeles and several years later he became involved in a computer graphics business which expanded to include wide format ink jet printing. In 2000 he moved to New Mexico with his wide format printer to capture the light. He swears he will never leave.
