Luis received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Fine Arts College of the University of New Mexico. Although of Hispanic heritage, Mojica cites his major aesthetic influence as the arts and crafts of the Native Americans, especially classic Navajo silversmithing of the 1900's, pueblo pottery designs of the Hopi and New Mexico Pueblos, as well as contemporary Indian jewelry.
