Martha Egan has been a Latin American Folk Art dealer through her Santa Fe store, Pachamama, since 1974. She is a frequent speaker on Latin American folk art at museums, universities, conventions, and cultural organizations throughout the US. She holds a BA from the University of the Americas, Mexico City, in Latin American History, and was a Peace Corps volunteer in Venezuela in the late 60’s, assisting micro lending cooperatives. She has also worked as a Washington bureaucrat, a language teacher, and translator. Since 1991, she has been a Research Associate of the Museum of International Folk Art. In 2004, she received the first annual Van Deren Coke Award from the Friends of Latin American Folk Art, an international association.
