<strong>Exhibit/Sale to Feature Centennial Artists&rsquo; from the Museum of New Mexico Foundation Shops</strong><br />
<br />
Santa Fe, New Mexico&mdash;The City of Santa Fe Community Gallery announces &ldquo;Centennial,&rdquo; an exhibit featuring a selection of artists and their work from the Museum of New Mexico Foundation Shops.  &ldquo;Centennial&rdquo; will showcase the fine work of a collection of artists and pay tribute to New Mexico&rsquo;s 100 Year Anniversary.  All work will be available for viewing and on sale through the New Mexico Creates Website at the Community Gallery.  The exhibit will open on Tuesday, November 29th and continue through Friday, January 27th, 2012.  There will be an artists&rsquo; reception on Friday, December 2 from 3-5 PM in the Community Gallery.  The Community Gallery, located inside the Santa Fe Community Convention Center, 201 West Marcy, is open Tuesday through Friday, 10 AM to 5 PM and Saturday, 9:30 AM to 4 PM. New Mexico Creates, a program of the Museum of New Mexico Foundation, is working in partnership with the NM Centennial Foundation to promote the &quot;New Mexico Creates/Centennial Commemorative Art&quot; line. <br />

Works chosen will convey some of the state's centuries-old craftsmanship traditions as well as the ongoing international appeal the state holds for artists and artisans.  Items will encompass a myriad of styles from traditional to contemporary and even cutting edge.<br />

The &quot;New Mexico Creates/Centennial Commemorative Art&quot; is a special collection of the successful New Mexico Creates initiative of the Museum of New Mexico Foundation Shops (MNMFShops). Since 2003, New Mexico Creates has enhanced the livelihoods of over 1,000 artists, artisans and authors through a model of economic self-sufficiency. Over the last seven years, the program has paid directly to the artists and their families of New Mexico over $6 million. The Museum of New Mexico Foundation Shops through the New Mexico Creates initiative offers these extraordinary beautiful, state and locally made gifts and collectables in its six shops in the following Museums of New Mexico; New Mexico History Museum, Palace of the Governors, New Mexico Museum of Art and the Museum of Indian Arts and Culture and the Museum of International Folk Art as well as two websites: newmexicocreates.org, and worldfolkart.org. <br />

<strong>FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE</strong> August 11, 2011 SANTA FE -- New Mexico Creates, a program of the Museum of New Mexico Foundation working in partnership with the NM Centennial Foundation, announces the startup of the &quot;New Mexico Creates/Centennial Commemorative Art&quot; line.  The line consists of fifty-two works of art from New Mexico artists and artisans.  New Mexico Creates/Centennial Commemorative Art is now available for viewing and purchase at: <a href="http://newmexicocreates.org/centennial-artists">http://newmexicocreates.org/centennial-artists</a>.<br />
<br />
In 2010, New Mexico-based artists and artisans were invited to submit proposals for special commemorative pieces for the statehood Centennial. A wide range of artistic media was and continues to be considered, including glassware, jewelry, basketry, pottery, and fiber arts (both wearable and decorative). The work is inspired by the New Mexico Centennial and conveys some of the state's centuries-old craftsmanship traditions as well as the ongoing international appeal the state holds for artists and artisans.  Items encompass a myriad of styles from traditional to contemporary and even cutting edge. Included in the line are jewelry from Doug Magnus from Santa Fe and Cippy Crazyhorse from Cochiti. Hispanic artists Hector Rascon, Charlie Carrillo, Carlos Barela and Richard Gabriel are showing work in the line. Painting and prints from artists Alex Jacobs, Constance Gehring, Charles Greeley, and Lisa de St. Croix are also available on the website.<br />
