His grandfather, Felipe Archuleta, and uncle, Leroy Archuleta, were renowned folk artists whose lifesize animals are in collections around the world, including that of the Smithsonian. Ron learned to carve with them in the yard of the ancestral home in Tesuque. While he still carves animals reminiscent of Felipe and Leroy, he has taken the tradition in new directions, carving devils, broken down "viejito" trucks, and creating vehicles out of found objects. His pieces are in collections around the world, including that of the American Folk Art Museum in New York.
